No, we don't play traditional music in a traditional style. Many bands don't. We are part of the musical diaspora that Celtic music is currently enjoying. The spirit and style of the music has spread and become so pervasive and powerful that it is blending with other stylings and then returning to the celtic fold. The result is a wonderful new generation of Celtic musicians worldwide that are creating powerful new music. New music that honors the old traditions of storytelling, of melody, magic and of hearth and home. This is Coyote Run.
- Coyote Run has been given glowing reviews by such celtic publications as Celtic Beat, the Irish Voice, the Irish Echo and the Milwaukee Irish Press;
- We are featured performers at many Celtic Festivals including: The Potomac Celtic Festival, VA; Celtic Fling, PA; Celebration of Celts, NY; Grandfather Mountain, NC; Sycamore Shoals, TN; McHenry Highland Games, MD; and more.
- We have toured Ireland and Scotland. In both places we were warmly received with standing ovations and crowds on their feet dancing to the music. In Dingle, Ireland, we were given the singular honor of playing with legendary musicians from the west of Ireland who praised us and complimented our musical stylings. In Inverness, we drew such a crowd that Hootenany's (the famous music venue) had to start turning folks away, and they wouldn't let us off the stage demanding not just an encore, but an entire additional set of 45 minutes of music. We were promptly invited back to every venue we played in both countries.
A good way to describe our look is "frontier celtic." Imagine Scottish pioneers pushing into the unsettled lands of early Virginia and encountering the natives. It is from this imagined early meeting that we have taken our name and it is from this imagined early meeting that we have taken our look of part Scot with Indian elements.
A good way to describe our sound is New Celtic Alternative:
- New because most of the music is original;
- Celtic because of our heritage and influences and the strains of traditional melodies that interweave our songs;
- Alternative because of the eclecticism and stylings of the music.
No, we don't play traditional music. Instead, we are part of the new tradition that is breathing new life into Celtic music and keeping it vital and alive.
